The Vision of DDU-GKY is to "Transform rural poor youth into an economically independent and globally relevant workforce". It aims to target youth, in the age group of 15–35 years.
What is DDU-GKY?
Deen Dayal Upadhyaya- Gramin Kaushalya Yojna
DDU- GKY- Is placement linked skill development initiative by Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India.
To cater to the need to diversify incomes of rural poor and cater to the occupational aspiration of youth (address large scale un-employment in educated youth; who do not have any formal skills training).
Focus is on delivering programmes which enhance skills of youth (duration minimum 3 months to 8 months) and then placing them above minimum wages in formal sector
Mandatory coverage of SC & ST (50%), Minority (15%) and Women (33%) of candidates trained
Programmes can be both residential as well as non-residential. Qualification for the program is minimum 18 years of age and 10th or 12th standard formal education with Below Poverty Line card or any other schemes run for rural poor.
Poor youth are provided all basics (including boarding & lodging, skills training, formal dresses, tabs, Wifi and all other facilities on Free of Charge basis).
